  • To Buy or Not To Buy and Which Laptop?

Well, I've been looking for a decent laptop to do all my stuff and I finally boiled it down to two laptops...

I've been looking at the Asus M3N and MiTAC 8060 and been eyeing them for quite some time. But everytime I look at one, I always remeber something else in the other so I'm really stuck here :-/

I don't know which one to buy!!!! ARGH!! Frustrating.

Anyone want to give me their two cents on these systems?

Note: Those pictures don't do justice. I've seen both systems before and they are a lot nicer in person than on the computer screen

I like the first one better.

I like the first one mainly because of the ability to turn off the touchpad. The bottom also looks good, possible easy access to upgrade the memory without taking apart the whole unit.

I would get the first one (ASUS) and then upgrade the CPU to 1.4, hard drive to 40 GB, and the memory to 512.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is standard now a days to be able to turn off the touchpad if you want to. I think you can do that in the synaptics control panel

Not on all laptops. I got rid of my Dell because I couldn't turn this off. I was always rubbing my wrist on it accidentally and moving the curser where I did not want it. My new IBM has the touchpad and a thing called a track point...a little rubber thing like a joystick in between three keys. I use it over the touchpad.

The touchpad on my laptop cannot be turned off, but because it's recessed, when you rest you hand over it, it doesn't cause problems. I never use it anyway, I just carry a mouse, hehe.

Anyways, I think both of those laptops are a touch on the pricey side, as far as features/cost is concerned.

I just dont trust that brand. I've never heard of it, but it could be good. I'd personally go with a Dell or Gateway or something.

The are different laptops and address different markets. These are laptops aren't mainstream laptops.

Just a small FYI, Asus and MiTAC are big contenders on the Asia markets

Not exactly in the same league as centrino notebooks though..

Oh...not sure if this affects people's suggestions/recommendations though, but the 8060 can get higher level centrino processors...just that you gotta wait a week or two.
