  • PayPal vs. 2Checkout

Is one "better" than the other?

They aren't really in the same leauge.

Paypal deals with "money" transfers and requires both the buyer and seller to signup to their service before it can be used.

2checkout is for credit card processing only and does not require the buyer to signup for anything special.

I personally use both (paypal for non-creditcard transactions) and 2checkout for credit card processing.

Thanks Gavin. Could you recommend a shopping cart program (free or otherwise) that allows the use of both?

Also, you use PayPal for non-credit card payments... so is it safe to assume you use a personal account and not a premier or business account? I guess it would be possible to have two PayPal accounts for both (considering if someone had a PayPal account already and wanted to pay using a credit card, PayPal takes less from the sale) but that would require two bank accounts...so... hrm...

Also, is there any other services that provide similar but possibly better services?

oscommerce (www.oscommerce.com) is a good shopping cart
You can have both a personal paypal account as well as a business/premier account, but you will need a verify each account with unique method (ie you can't use the same credit card). To make online sales using paypal's seller features you will need to have a business/premier account...

Also, paypal can take credit card transactions, however the payer still needs to sign up (which isn't that great if they don't already have one) which is why most people tend to use a seperate dedicated cc processor.

Has anyone integrated anything else besides Paypal into vB3?

I think that if you have the business account and you make the transaction page I don't think they have to sign up if they are going to use a Credit Card to transfer. I have seen paypal transaction pages that just ask for the credit card not a user id

I use both services. I find more people use 2CheckOut because it is simple and dosn't include a sign up. The only negative is the $50 start up fee, and the chunk they take out of each transaction.

Very good feedback. I agree with a lot of it. 2CheckOut is a little out dated and under supported, but it's still a cheap credit card processor. I found when using just PayPal, we lost up to 70% of customers because they were confused with "PayPal".

I would use both since people in the Middle East and other 3rd world countries cannot use payPal

$50 startup for 2checkout?! . Also, how much % of each transaction do they take out?

It says everything on the front page - $49 startup fees, 5.5% of each transaction plus $0.45 per transaction.
