  • Do you...

Do you run a site with your forums? I'm debating whether I should run a site with my forums or not... I mean, my domain name is www.gcnforums.com so it doesn't seem right. And the only problem I have with running a site is... Won't that cut down on forum views, because its too hard for them to view it?

Yeah, I run a site with my forums, (albeit not a very good one), but with a domain like that, it'd probably make more sense to just run a forum. I don't know what you mean about that last part, though.

I do both. My pro photo forum has a site and a free image gallery for my members, but my cooking forum has no site.

I meant, often, the link to the Forums is skipped. Thanks for the advice though...

Oh yeah... Well, sometimes making the link to the forums stand out over all of the rest works (i.e., but making it a different colour or making it bold). And maybe you could mention them frequently whenever you make updates and stuff.

I would say yes to having a main site for it makes people more interested (if your serious) and can get more people involved. Forums by them selves are just plain boaring and lack direction in my opinon.

I use a site/homepage to bring all the forum stuff, TOS, contact, affiliate, etc. all together into one neat package.

Andrew, I'm sorry but I'm not sure if this copyright is legal, it's dark on my monitor and I can't read it 'til I highlight it:

I started off with a site, added forums, forums became main part of the site where everything happened, and then I went back to adding features that form part of the site, even though they're integrated with the forum.

Currently, with KFN 6, there'll be a massive site, with the forums as the backend and community gathering only.

Yup, although my main aim at the moment is to get people registered on the forums.

and besides, my whole site is run from the forums.

Same here on my current site (see WWW button).

The next edition of my site, KFN 6, will be somewhat different though. Although the entire site will run on the vBulletin-backend, everything will be so integrated that the forums really won't be that big a part of it anymore. They'll only be a way for people to communicate with each other outside of all the features.
