  • Let's build some statistics...

Okay, lets build some statistics about forums here and try to keep it as unbiased as possibly in regards to software. If you wish to participate, please answer the questions below. I will take the results and put them in a database and post the results when I am done. I will also post this on several other communities to get the information from as many places as possible. If others want to post this on forum related communities please do so and forward the results to me. The more information we get the better ideas we can get for making forums profitable and successful in the future.

A lot of those questions I try to keep private and not public, how are the results handled if I email them?

All information will be put into MySQL and marked as private if you so which. The MySQL server is in my home and the only people that have access to it are myself, my wife and possibly one employee. No private information will be published in the report if so dedicated. The report will contain aggregated information and statistics on that information. It will also contain suggestions on new revenue schemes for forum-based websites depending on a review of the websites that participate and submit information and a determination of what works and what doesn't.

At least some people are willing to help out. This isn't a vBulletin project. It is an independant project of my own so that I can develop ways for people to pay for the costs of running popular forums. The results are available to everyone who participates and will be posted on several websites. If you don't want identifying information released, then it won't be. That is opt-in only.

Anyway, so far, I have about 40 respondants using different software packages and hope to get more over time.

You're asking for confidential details relating to income. These are considered highly profitable trade secrets by many and if your site/business is worth anything, you'd keep it so tight that not even your best friends or family members have a clue.

But... I guess if one has a site that generates some side income, then it may not be so important to keep secret.
                    Well, there it is.
