  • Woohoo... New Computer

Well, since I got paid, I was able to finally pick up my new computer. It isn't the top of the line computer that most of you have but it is much better than anything I have had before.

    CPU: AMD 1700XP+
    Motherboard: MSI K7N2G
30 GB ATA 133 7200 RPM Hard Driver
    DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive 42/16/42/16
256 Megabytes DDR 333 RAM (probably will increase to 512 at least)

    The motherboard contains:
NVidia GEForce 4 AGP 8X Video with Dual Monitor Support w/ Television out
    Dobly 5.1 Stereo Sound
    100 Mbit Lan
    6 USB 2.0 ports (4 rear, 2 front)
    2 Firewire ports (IEEE 1394)

    Total Cost: $453.00

Actually, purchased it for the kids but am thinking of keeping it for myself since it is better and faster than my current computer.

Wayne, assuming that's a T-Bred B chip (which most of the new 1700+'s are..)... they overclock like insane speed demons.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could get almost 1.8GHz on air, or more.... and if you have a NF2 mobo the PCI bus and AGP bus are locked... up that FSB!!

Awesome, especially for that kind of price! I'd like to get a piece o' that for my local server over here.

                  The previous computer was:
                  AMD Athlon 1700XP+
                  256 MD 133 SDRAM
                  ATI RAGE 8MB AGP 4X
                  40 MB Hard Drive
                  DVD 16X
                  Lite-On CD-RW 52/24/52X

And it is only a year old. It cost me more though.

Still setting this new one up. Have downloaded over 130 MB of updates from Windows Update. I also now have a 13 Gigabyte Backup drive installed in it.

If you have a store near you, set your account on their website properly and you can order online and pick it up in the store. That is what I do just to save shipping. Have to pay sales tax but it isn't that bad.

I have been building my own machines since 1985. The only way I would purchase a prebuilt machine is if I was purchasing a Laptop.
