They still have to do a number of things, like bug fixes and removing threaded mode before vBulletin 3 will be ready for final release . And of course, that will all happen "when it's done", programmer's lingo for "stop bugging us about the release date already"

It's a shame people refuse to listen though.

vb3 like dnf? Hardly? For one, at least we have a Beta, or in comparible terms a "demo" of what vb3 has to offer. We aint got crap from DNF aside from some stale screenshots a poor E3 movie.

No wonder DNF won the Wired Vaporware award for the 2nd time in a row (or is it 3rd?).

Didn't you hear? vBulletin 3.0 was released months ago. We just didn't tell you because you are constantly whining about it.

Wouldn't it be funny if the devs put it so those who whine get vB3 5 months later than everyone else

Remove threaded mode???? Why that? Please don´t tell me that there won´t be a threaded and hybrid mode in vB3?????

Threaded mode is not going to be removed.

All the other boards, phpBB, Invisionboard, etc. that I have been looking into now have peopel complaining in their support forums that they want threaded mode desperately, when before (pre vB 3.0 Beta) the same absolutely hated it (both without ever using such a board for the most part). So for that reason, you guys having threaded mode annoys me!

As for me, I would prefer to see a different type of hybrid view (though I won't get into it as it's futile anyway) only, with helpful elements of all the current views, without view switching.

In the end, based on experiences at other sites, I See threaded view as one of those thing that is absolutely loved by few, hated by many, and ignored by all the rest. So for that reason I have come here to see how vBulletin 3 works.

The threaded mode is not so bad, but I still feel somewhat limited when trying to quote multiple peopel adn reply to multiple poeple in single posts like I do everywhere else. But it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

Puuuuhh.... feeling much better now! Thanks!

I´m still running my DCForum because my users did´nt want to loose the "tree"... the threaded Hybrid view. So I now must wait for vB3.

There are many arguments for such a threaded view. A response to a post can be found easily in that view. It´s normal that several discussions are running in one single thread. You loose the overview if a forum is "linear" only... or you have to quote everything.

                              Not necessarily:

                              1) I'd prefer to see additions to the quote system rather than split views
                              2) Split and Merge can be used if there is a linear thread that starts to go off topic, but if a threaded one does, then Split and Merge don't work too well... (bad for linear, your primary audience)
                              3) Linear mode and threaded mode "conflict" with each other, meaning if someone in linear wants to reply to 5 messages at once, and they do it in one, it makes no sense to the guys in Threaded because you have to just pick ONE post to reply to. Likewise, if you reply to 5, all witihn close to the same time, linear starts to have extra pages filled with consecutive posts ,which makes editing confusing as well. Threaded mode will also be more inclined to go without quoting so that detracts from Linear as well.

Almost every argument in favor of threaded can be solved by extending the quote system to include links to the posts ti was quotes from, as well as references FROM posts to places where it is quoted. However, that has none of the disadvantages of split view (which is really the problem, not linear or threaded, but split) So I'd rather see a merged view than a split view.

If I decide to go for version 3, then it will be with threaded mode removed using a modification (which I guarantee will be the most popular modification too).
