Please post your forum rules/registration agreement

I'm looking for ideas to update our forum's registration agreement/forum rules, which seems quite lame.

If you have changed the default vB template and don't mind sharing your forum rules, plase post them here. This should come quite handy to have a few samples to compare with.

    Tia.

Well different forum's rules depend on what their topic is. If they have an art community and don't want nude art (whether it be from an ancient painter or from a modern person) they might say that "Nudity of any kind is prohibitted", however, if you run a PC help forum, that's not going to do you much good. So it really depends on what your forums are about as to what your forum rules are.

As a side note, I haven't fully developed mine yet, but when I do I'll try and post them here.

This is true, however, many of the rules have a "tone" that can apply to many unrelated topics.

For example, our mods sometimes get a lot hastle simply for applying the rule against flames, and we get questioned why we banned someone because they were "expressing their opinion" etc. When these discussions get posted all over the forum, it generates a lot of debate and polarizes members into opposing camps, and demand of reinstating someone, etc.

One of our mods suggested adding this

How about something along the lines of:

This is our playground. We've opened it up to you and we want you to stay and feel welcome here and have fun playing in our playground. We put a lot of time and effort into providing you with a clean and safe playground which means we get to pick up a lot of dog doo and other trash. It's a pretty thankless job overall and we do it because we do want you to have a clean playground to play in. But those that pick it up get to decide what is and isn't dog doo and if we decide that your favorite toy is dog doo, it's gone. Please don't argue and please don't bring that toy back otherwise you're gone. It is, after all, our playground.
I'm thinking of adding this, and looking for other ideas as to other issues and rules that result in fair warning, and make things clear at the outset.

So I think many of our forum rules are quite general, and apply to almost all forums.

We do have some special rule, designed for our topic, diets. Such as no discussion of illegal drugs, no discussion of propriatery plans, consult your doctor etc.

I just wanted to see what others are going through, and what they are doing about it.

Here's one of my favourites (notice #6):
