I'd exclude aweber as it doesn't impress me. Every other one is very popular & successful email marketing provider. ConstantContact & Campaign Monitor both have a repuation beyond repute; it's what best suits your needs & budget that's better.

SparkList is the provider hosting the infamous SitePoint newsletters. They've more than 400,000 subscribers.

This is a good first step -- I like the fact that these are external, hosted solutions. Cost aside (though cost, obviously, is still a factor), which do you consider to be the most well-known, user-friendly hosted mailing/newsletter solutions for us webmasters and forum administrators? Especially, that is, given that we need to get the word out to around 80,000 or so of our registered users.

Is PHPList still considered the preferred tool for vBulletin users to send out bulk e-mails with opt-in/opt-out support controls?

I just got myself a new server Dual P4 Xeon 2.2Ghz with RAID 5, so there would not be any problems sending the mails. I hope.

Thomas P check you private message.

    Sorry for being OT

@certify: Sent you a PM which at least seems still unread 5 months ago, if you're not interested, I'll never ask again.

I used SubscribeMe Pro for a long time, but now they obfuscated the code and you can no longer customize it, so unless you don't do any customization, I don't recommend it.

For 800,000 newsletters all at once, you'd need to probably look into a paid script. I doubt you'll find a simple/free cgi or php script that can support that many e-mails being sent out. You'll need one that supports sending X e-mails out at a time, otherwise it will timeout. You'll also need one helluv a server or else be prepared to spend hours sending them all out. I remember a friend of mine used to send out very large lists (over 700,000) each week and it would take a while for them to get sent out.

Your best bet is to look into a mailing list program such as LISTSERV. That way, only those that want to receive the newsletter can opt in.
