  • Annoying Net Send Messages

Is anyone else getting these stupid university diploma's in a popup box?

There using net send MYIP message which I have to say is very annoying. Stopped it by turning the messaging service off.

    net stop msg

Any idea how they got everybody's IP and netsend'ed them? I'm on a semi-dynamic IP, yet I get a popup almost every single time I log on.
        :)

Thanks, I have that turned off now, I was wondering how they sent those, I did get one of those about 8 hours ago.

Never gotten one because I'm behind a router.

I posted a news story on this earlier.

my guess is they just send them to random netblock IP addy's

I'd think any good firewall would block them too...my router has a firewall (and NAT like baragon0) and I'm running ZoneAlarm too because my router's firewall is kinda lame (and to protect outgoing traffic by application, no consumer router does that). I never get them. Plus I disabled the messenger service.

It's a lot of fun at work though, I bound one of the extra keys on my keyboard (i.e., Home, Search, E-mail, etc.) to do a net send to somebody.

edit: whatever mod deleted my Googlebot thread could have at least PMed me as to why they felt it should be deleted...

i think zonealarm would leave it open as default, its a useful feature for network admins wanting to do tests. I know my school used it alot.
