I don't think it's whether or not invision board offers support but whether or not they HAVE to. Invision board is not required to provide support to their members. When you download invision board, i'm sure there is a huge disclaimer that says they aren't responsible for bugs or lost data and stuff and that they aren't required to provide support. If I have a problem with my forums, I want an answer immediately and I want it answered by an staff member. Every single question i've asked here at vbulletin.com, whether a newbie question or not, has been answered within 24 hours, but most times within' 5-10 minutes. You mention that they both offer paid tech support, but essentially that just makes them a commercial board, so then this debate is no longer about Paid VS Free, it's Paid VS Paid. What isn't mentioned though, is the fact that those tech support things don't provide enough security in my mind. Just because you get premium tech support, doesn't mean the bugs will get fixed any faster for you then they will for the other non-paying people. I think we all see how fast John and the vB developers fix bugs when they are found... I don't know how fast invision board fixes them though. Didn't we even see a couple of bugs posted here, the registration bug for invision board? They should have had that fixed, but I think it took them days to fix it, even with people posting in their forums. That's just one example of why vbulletin is a much better solution for someone who is serious about security and stability. But like everything, it boils down to what you need. If you don't need that extra security/stability and you feel that invision board is as good as vbulletin features-wise (which I don't think it is) then go with invision board.

    That's the bottom line,

Well, Invision board surely has a much more efficient code than vB. However it lacks vB's features.

What makes vB cool is that it provides you with everything you need in one complete package.

you have made some big baseless assumptions there.

I am simply complementing both vbulletin and invisionboard as a company that supplies both a good product and support and both have a very bright future. they are both making big moves in features and support and both have a good solid structure/foundation that they are both working on and are both continuing to look to the future for providing an ever improving forum product.

this is why i believe invisionboard and vbulletin are closely becoming "on par" with each other in general.

I think they far exceed most other board products out there. but then again i don't know of all the forum products out there.

I am a vbulletin user and don't forsee myself changing anytime soon.

but please do some research first before posting baseless assumptions.

It's not a baseless assumption. Invision board is a free product, they can't afford to hire customer support like vBulletin can, plain and simple. Also, like I said in my last post, there is no peace of mind for large companies when using a free bulletin board. Invision board could close up tommorow or stop fixing bugs and there is nothing anyone could do about it. Atleast with vBulletin I know they won't just disappear or stop updating their software. I know vBulletin will be around for a long time. Can you say the same about invision board? And if so, what are you basing that on?

I know this isn't the place to do it, but I really feel that I should at least answer some questions raised here:

Invision Board is not free. If you download it with the copyright showing, you do not have to pay. We offer paid support plans that include telephone support to the UK or USA, priority ticket system where tickets are answered within 6 hours (99.9% it's a heck of a lot sooner), phpLive Support and a special private forum on the support board. Free support includes phpLive Support, tickets system (answered within 24 hours - always a lot sooner) and the various forums on our support board. We also do have 30 support team members that know their job and do it well.

Maybe you should contact a few members that have Invision Boards and ask them what their view on our support is rather than make wildly random guesses.

As to whether Invision Board is catching up to vBulletin isn't for me to say. They are two different products with two different goals.

Invision board could close up tommorow or stop fixing bugs and there is nothing anyone could do about it. Atleast with vBulletin I know they won't just disappear or stop updating their software. I know vBulletin will be around for a long time. Can you say the same about invision board? And if so, what are you basing that on?
As we have many, many customers that have taken out support options, we'd get sued from here to Christmas Invision Power is a proper company - it's not a few kids getting together after school, you should have seen our last tax bill

thanks for clearing that up matt. what you have said is what i assumed, which is why i was trying to compliment invisionboard and rank them high along side vbulletin.

Invision board distributes vBulletin buttons in one of its styles, from what I'm aware...

                  Surely not legal?

Invision Board does not distribute any third party styles at all. I am aware that there are both phpBB and vB styles available, but they are not from an official source and we take a hard line on copyright infringement.

I really don't think this is the place to discuss which one is best as it's almost aways subjective to the wants and needs of the admin. I also don't want to fight for Invision Boards corner, I just wanted to set the record straight on the issue of our support - that's all.

I've always maintained that vB is a great, well supported product.

True, iB does execute less queries than vB does, especially if the vB is hacked. However, iB also does not have all of the features that vB has that actually makes it need all of these queries. vBulletin is still more stable in the long run.

True, you can compare the price, but it does end there. You can't go comparing it after that, it's like comparing apples and oranges....

I must admit the features list is very impressive indeed - many of these I'd like to see in VB for sure.

Having said that - the crunch will be how the features are implemented - ie securely and efficently.

I think it's good news that there are other boards out there under development as it pushes the excellent VB team to work harder.

As others have said please don't turn this place into Infopop support forums - collectively we are much better than that.

The comment about a paid product always being better than a free product is a load of ****.

                            Seriously.

Invision Board 1.1 is on par with vB2. Perhaps you think vB is much better just because you're more familiar with it. That's how I was until I met up with their latest version. Their template system is awesome once you get the hang of it. And that's the only thing that vB had over it from the first version albeit a few more features.

As far as technical support, I have never had a problem with either product. Always a speedy remedy.

I must say I prefer VB, I set an IB up one day caus my socks were in the wash and I found it to be bulky, not great to look at and too slow like most other VB wannabe's.
