  • vbulletin.com = 8/10 Google PR!

Congrats to vbulletin.com for moving up to 8/10 from their previous 7/10 on google's PR ranking system... that's a huge accomplishment, very few sites make it that high! Me, i'd be happy just to hit 6/10

yeah, google is still dancing, which means for the next few days, PR's are bound to change alot... so google might still be 7/10, but I highly doubt that, since it shows 8/10 and usually the dances foretell the future Here is the screenshot btw:

Alexa logs all sites you visit and uses them to have their own ranking system. I know that and I accept it. It says everything they do in their terms before you download it... not like they are hiding anything from people. I hardly consider it spyware, since you install it voluntarily. If that were the basis for spyware then google toolbar would be spyware also. Anyways, I only have the alexa toolbar because using it helps increase my ranking on alexa (since i'm the #1 visitor of my site, heh). I never use any of the other options on it.

Mine is 3/10, but will be 4/10 after this update. I am disppointed as I was hoping it was going to be 6/10 and I was pretty confident it would be atleast 5/10 ... I am being linked by lots of sites now, including three other 6/10's... but nope, looks like i'm going to only be a 4/10 ... oh well.

a PR of 6 is nothing to be ashamed of, it's difficult to get to 7.

both of my site are a 6.

8/10 is even more difficult, that's why it's so impressive to see vbulletin.com get that. The reason they have such a high PR though, is cause of all the links at the bottom of people's forums... smart john So... when is vbulletin.com gonna hit 9/10? I'd be willing to bet never :/ I haven't seen a site hit 9/10 yet that isn't a non-profit organization, university, goverment site or a huge company (amazon, lycos, microsoft, ect.)

On a side note... I think that now since John has 8/10, he should put links to all our sites on his front page and leak some of that good PR to us

My site on Homestead used to show up as a full bar. O_o

I have since uninstalled that toolbar though.

So what is so great about the page rank? I've seen it mentioned but I don't quite understand what it is. Is it based on traffic, ratings, reciprocal links, or a combination of those? Does it affect your search ranking on Google's pages?

It's a very complex formula that is used to calculate page rank, but it's main focus is linkage. The more incoming links to your site, the better. It's not based on traffic/ratings or anything like that. As far as affecting search results, it affects them quite a bit, but page rank isn't everything. Often you'll see 5 or 6 PR sites ahead of 7 or 8's in the rankings... but not too often.
