  • Multiple Domains

How many of you have multiple domains for the same domain?

    ie: www.thissite.com

    Becomes?

    www.thissite.com
    www.thissite.org
    www.thissite.net
    www.this-site.com
    www.this-site.org
    www.this-site.net

I don't know why, but I'm about to do this with all my domains.

    I don't...

Personally, my thinking is that unless your site is very large or popular, there's no need, and it's just a waste of money, since who on earth would want to copy the domain of some small unknown site?

I own http://www.sportscentralboards.com which directs to my actual site on my main domain, sports-central.org. My thinking is two-fold: one, if I ever need to separate the two sites because of bandwidth or whatever, I have the domain to do so. Secondly, it is an easy-to-remember name for my members. I use MyDomain.com to do the redirecting.

'Sho do. I use http://www.ffrforums.com which redirects to http://forums.ffrepublic.com.

I also purchased http://www.ffrepublic.net, and http://www.ffrepublic.org, which redirect to http://www.ffrepublic.com.

I got the domains for about 15 dollars for an entire year, by the way.

                  They also randomly work..

Heh, I still haven't been able to convince myself to use a new domain registrar. I liked it better when InterNIC was it... 'ol rs.internic.net. I have just stayed with Network Solution out of conveniece.

Currently for vBulletin.org I own vbhacks.com (the original name), vbhackers.com, and vbhackers.org (thanks to SaintDog). vbulletin.org itself is not mine, but Stallion's (the owner of the old site), and then I have vbhacks.net pointing at us (because someone registered and has no use for it). I think that's is...

But usually this "trick" is done by big companies, that don't want to lose customers that accidentally misspel their names. Or in case the name can be both singular and plural (for example SPF, which has both sitepointforum.com and sitepointforums.com).

Try misspelling google or yahoo a few times.
