I agree with Jelsoft's decision on this one. I hope that they will follow up with lots of different modules.... like download, links, reviews, etc. I'm tired of trying to integrate other scripts with vb. I'd rather just give them my $$$ and save the headache ... IMO of course.

I agree. A download manager, email scripts, etc. If they are of the level of quality as other Jelsoft products, I'm more than willing to buy them if it saves me the trouble.

No one is forcing you to buy it. That's why they call it an option.

Would you prefer the development and support of this in the cost of vB thereby raising the cost to everyone - even those people who wouldn't use it?

I agree the CMS (or any other addons down the line) should come with a price, if nothing else to serve as an incentive to maintain and extend it. That said, I do expect some sort of "loyalist" discount for existing customers, simply because you will in all likelyhood offer the products separately as well as bundled with vBulletin at a "special price" for new purchases. God damn! Some people just can't be pleased.

Those of you who do not have much money to spend on software - what are you complaining about? You bought vBulletin without CMS, and in a few months you are going to get a much better version! How can you expect to suddenly get a CMS for no extra charge? You have what you paid for - so be happy you are getting a newer version with more features as standard.

On another note - I'd be happy to pay for an CMS add-on. I currently use vBPortal which is great (wajones has done a great job). It works perfectly - but upgrades scare the hell out of me.

I'm sure the official CMS will be just as easy to upgrade as vBulletin itself - which will be a god send.

This add-on would really need to be followed up by links and downloads add-ons though. (Please?)

OK.... I have no problem with Jelsoft charging for the CMS, because frankly, there will STILL Be free ones out there that work perfectly fine with vBulletin. Just like if you don't want to pay for your forums, you can go get some free crap that doesn't work well.

So Jellsoft, feel free to charge for your CMS, just don't let it slow down your vBulletin development, because that's basically why we're all here now.

ANd... just for the record :

By this logic then once you've paid for Windows you should automatically get all other Microsoft products for free, i.e., Microsoft Office, MS Money, etc.

Hmmm, like Apple computers.. .where you get OS X, iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD etc. etc.. etc.. and don't bash me, I'm not a hardcore Mac user, just pointing out something mildly amusing which I found whilst reading that...

WinXP also comes with a wordpad & paint program,
calculator and disk tools,
movie maker and movie watcher,
etc.

It is where you decide to use more then the average, like an office suite, you can't expect ms to give this for free to all winXP users .. ? its a seperate product, so you pay seperate for it.

Not to drag this too far off-topic but iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, etc. are "middleware"...that is, they come with the OS but perform functions that can be performed by third-party software and are not as ingratiated into the system as, say, the registry.

Applying this back to Windows...
iTunes = Windows Media Player (WiMP)
iMovie = Windows Movie Maker
iPhoto = Paint

OS X doesn't come with a productivity/office application suite. OS X doesn't come with a money management program. Etc. etc. etc.

Like I said, if I need the CMS, I'll fork out the cash, not debating that at all.. I'm quite certain it will be worth the cash for people who need it.. some of us won't, and thus, won't need to worry about the extra bloat or options in our vBulletin

Not sure what you are getting at here... the CMS is a vBulletin Plug-in, so people who don't have vBulletin can't use it in the first place...
