How could I know if someone is using a pirate vBulletin?

a good hint is if they are still using a beta version of 2. Or a way outdated version. This is not always the case but it usually is.

Yeah, but if he has 2.x.x it could be his access to the members are is finished, because he didn't want to pay again the $30.

in that case he shouldnt be running the board as the lease would be expired.

not necessarily the case if you buy the software @ $160 but then don't buy updates to the members' area after the end of the 1st year of free updates.
