PHP Portal is good .. however, it really can bog a server down. Chris Padfield, who I share a server with, did quite a bit of work on mine. Thanks Chris .. not sure what he did but he changed a few things around.

I don't see the connection to those guidelines in this case. If vB were developing a portal 'addon' to vBulletin, then maybe - as it is, Paul posted a relevant post.

Thanks Mark... however i do have a question (considering you read this post ) if vB did have a portal and someone asked a general question about which portal software was good to use and someone said Nuke, PostNuke, phpPortal or anything like that the post would be deleted because there was already a vB portal?

Am I correct in reading the rules of the forum correctly?

                thanks..

I don't think so. That 'rule' is more to stop ppl coming in and saying "Hey, check out this new bulletin board, ain't it great?" rather than giving people actual information they've requested.

But that's just my reading of it.

I am going to step in here and say something...

The post about PHPBB's CMS was and is out of line. It doesn't matter if the CMS doesn't compete with vBulletin, it requires a competing product to run. Therefore is falls under the discussion guidelines. Also at this time, it is vaporware and the post leads directly to PHPBB2 and not a CMS product.

If you want to discuss the various Content Management Systems available then feel free to do so. Just don't promote other competing systems simply to promote them.

but ahh.. if you would visit the phpBB site you would see that development hasn't even started on their CMS system so it has yet to be seen if it will require the use of their forum software, which i highly doubt b/c that would severly limit alot of people who use vB, iB, UBB, etc... and that wouldn't be smart on the phpBB people's end...

Then it goes back to promoting competing products since it doesn't even answer the question of "What is the best out there?"

Instead you want to promote a non-existant product.
