The intel 2.2 ghz prossor was release today, and my old 350 mhz will not play the bigest games out there. I am trying to find a good cpu for my new computer. I will be develope website, play games like everquest, run windowxp and listen to music over the internet. What prossor should i get? I would like to be able to use and run the programs for at least a couple of years.

I just put together a new system and used the AMD Athlon XP 1700+ CPU, along with a Soyo Dragon+ Motherboard. I think the Athlon XP's offer far great bang-for-the-buck than any Intel stuff can provide. The 1700 is the sweet spot for price vs. performance right now - I got my combo for $270. Then added 512 mb of DDR RAM, a pair of 40 gig 7200 Maxtor's to run in a RAID arrary, and a GeForce3 Ti200

Like anything, do research before spending your money. Figure out exactly what you want, then make a move. Good luck!

Definately go with AMD. Just put together a system with the AMD XP1600+ proc, Abit KR7a-RAID mobo 1gig of pc2100 ddr ram, and (2) Maxtor ata133 hard dives (raid 0) and an additional IBM deskstar drive. The system flys and wasnt too expensive to build. Cost me less than $200 for the ram.

      Good luck,

I put together an AMD 800mhz (Not the fastest but got a good price) for hardly nothing a few months ago. A nice working machine. 40GIG hd, 512mb ram, 800mhz, not bad. Running AMD though I put a huge back fan, a front fan, and the standard heatsink with a fan. Gotta keep her cool

Cooling is essential, especially witht he new XP processors from amd. I currently use a Thermalright SK6 to keep my Tbird nice and cool (plus for case fans). Cooling is key, I can't stress this enough.

I think you should maye consider XP Pro and get rid of that thermaltake. If I remember correctly, thermaltake coolers are crap. (But I could be wrong)

I went with XP Home edition and it runs great for me. As far as I can tell the Pro version only allows for duel microprocessors and more networking features which I will probably never use. I put the extra $100 that I saved from that into a sweet water-cooling setup for my mircoprocessor and chipset. No More Fan Noise!!!
