I assume so that all previous sales worldwide were priced as "Item Cost + local tax"?
If so why did vB not charge VAT from the word go?
Can anyone else, from the US and elsewhere, confirm that they were charged local taxes prior to this recent change?

I think wcguy is on the money.

I mentioned this is a different post but as a us entity - I do t thunk they have to collect / remit VAT. After all they don't pay corporate taxes in the EU- they pay them to the IRS

          They just found out
Usually, the financial team provides adequate buffering time and prediction until the date it has to be collected.

They can't have just found out, and if that were the case, what statistics are these people doing?

vBulletin Solutions now needs to make clear to us, that they have registered with the HMRC (assuming it's them) and tell us their registration number. I'll now need to make major amendmends, and re-do the business paperwork to reclaim from vBulletin Solutions.

i never payed tax on vB. i just looked at my old invoices.

the only way i can be wrong is if the tax was built into the price.

i do NOT think it fair parts of the world have to pay vastley different prices, and higher at that.

IMHO IB needs to set the prices so they are close to even throught out the world.

why have some of the world pay 200.00 and the rest pay 230 or more?

If I provide my EU VAT ID (it's German), can you remove the VAT from my bills ? (which was the case previously, when you used to charge VAT). Claiming back VAT across different EU countries is a pain.

See this line of the announcement:

'Effective immediately, VAT of 17.5% will be added as part of your transaction, unless you have a valid VAT id.'

Enter the ID in the box during any payment process and you won't be charged the VAT.
                Vote for:

                - *Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe*
                -
*PM - Add ability to reply to originator only*
                - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s)
                - Highlight the correct navigation tab when you are on a custom page
                - "Quick Route" Interface...

VAT used to be charged and added on to the price (I've checked old bills of mine) then the VAT was dropped at some point (not sure when, possibly when IB took over).

This change actually moves us back to what happened previously.

That's quite a silly thing to say if you think about it.

For example, there ar 50 states in the US. Each state has a different sales tax. Many companies only charge sales tax on products purchased over the internet only to those unlucky souls who live in the same state as the company......

Using your logic, that's not fair, and the US company should lower it's price to same state customers.

The company, however, won't look at it that way. What they WILL do, if they had to make the price "fair", is to raise the price to everyone else to accomodate the highest taxed state.

Taxes, at the end of the day are NOT paid by companies. They are paid by end users. Whether it is a VAT or sales tax or income tax, or license fees, or unemployment tax, etc. etc.......

Don't buy into socialist accounting. ALL governments want to maximize revenues, while attempting to hide the total costs from the ultimate payors.....

My guess is, especially in Europe, but also in the States, that you don't realize that you are a slave to the system, sending more than half of the fruits of your labor to the government, so that they may spend it for you. And when they run out of your money, they borrow money aganst the future labor of yourrself and your children.

state sales taxes range from about 4% to about 8% that is a far cry from 17% to 20% or more thats the difference i am talking about here.

I am in the process of buying a second-hand owned licence for $80.
Considering the VAT on the cheapest new licence is $34.25 I think I'm making the best choice.
I'll get a few years use out of it before I have to worry about an upgrade. Who knows, vB 4 may even be bug free by then.
