  • Database errors, how do you alert the tech staff?

    In config.php there is an email address where to send the database errors. Up until today I've had that redirected to another email account that I frequently check. Now 2 more people would like to see those as well, and automating that somehow would be a very good thing.

    This is a general question, how do you handle alerting multiple tech staff members of the errors? Ideally having a master email account that could forward to 4 copies of the error to 4 different email addresses would work best. Maybe?

    This really has nothing to do with 3.8 that I'm using, not really a server issue, so I started this in chit chat. Feel free to move this thread wherever it belongs (yes I own legal copies of vB).

    Perhaps if you can, Set up a special email account just for DB errors and specify in the config file.

    Then forward the email account to the other interested parties.

    I dont know if it will work but you could try:
    $config['Database']['technicalemail'] = '[email protected], [email protected]';

      // Leave this blank to not send any emails when there is a database error.
      $config['Database']['technicalemail'] = '[email protected];';

        I do believe that you both just said the same thing, did I read that correctly? Can multiple emails be sent for each error to different email accounts?

        3 of them?
        4 of them?

          I think we typed the same thing.
          But dodge probably did his from memory and I copied and pasted from my config.php

          3 or 4,
          $config['Database']['technicalemail'] = '[email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]';
          if vBulletin can read it like this, Then if a DB error spits out, it would send 1 email to each email listed.

            Thanks to both of you!

            Very much appreciated!

              Ok, I just tried it for you..

              Broke the database, and had 3 emails in the config file
              It sent to 3 different email successfully.

              Only odd this is,

              In the To: and Sent: lines of the email, it has all three email addresses listed.
              Copy of the email:
              From: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
              Sent:    Friday, October 16, 2009 7:29 PM
              To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]

              But if you all are working together, viewing the others email address shouldn't be a problem.

                No problem having multiple email on the errors, we are all working together.
