The server time is off following the hard reboot. I'm not sure why the servers went down (they had almost two years' uptime prior to last night) and I'm also not sure why The Planet didn't appear to notify anyone when they saw that the servers were unreachable.

At any rate, it would appear that Freddie issued a remote reboot command for all the servers via The Planet's control panel after which they came back up again.

Not sure why the time is off, but as it's running slow it's not too terrible and I'll wait for Scott to get in to the office to diagnose it, though it looks like it might be a DST issue on the server side.

The only server that didn't get a reboot was the remote dev server, which is currently reporting an uptime of 548 days, 22:40 hours.

I meant more of why anyone would do it. Or it could have been a malicious app.

You imply it was perhaps done on purpose by someone. All I read was that they do not know why it was down.

Kier implied so in his tweet. I don't think I misunderstood it though.

There have been several DoS attacks against vBulletin servers in the past 24 hours. They are relatively low-tech, and easily blocked when identified. The problem that happened last night was that all of us who know how to deal with these kind of attacks were asleep (it was in the early hours of the morning here in the UK) and we were not notified that anything was wrong by our host.

Unfortunately, the server reboot was unnecessary (and quite annoying, given our huge uptime record - those servers have not been rebooted since they were deployed to production) but those dealing with the servers being down for an (at that time) unknown reason did what they thought was best as a last resort to restore service.

Thanks Kier - and sorry, I stand corrected for my yet again, incorrect interpretation.

                              Is there some DoS attack?
                              Pages are loading very slow.
(Earlier there was a database error as well. Alpha?)
