Forums for the missing several

I would like to know if any of the webmasters here are interested in helping out with a forum I've setup for missing people and their families all over the world.

I run a few sites and there have been members concerned about their families and have been unable to get news and information about them. My wife's cousin has been missing and unheard of (last we heard was an SMS he sent to his wife... saying he was in the building).

I'll not post the URL here as I do not want to come of as promoting a site in what is a sad time for many people.

Noble idea, but be careful. Apparently there have been a lot of sites like these, and Rudy Giulliani (the mayor of NY) has threatened to seek legal recourse against the operators of these sites and have them shut down.

So while your efforts are commendable, I would tread very lightly in these waters.

Ok. Thanks for the warning. I'll have to figure a way to work around that.

My wife still has a cousin missing .. he sent out an SMS message saying that "the building is on fire.. I'm on my way out" and that was 2 days ago.

Anyways, I'm willing to take the risks for now.. I'm outside the US and I'm not putting a domain name etc associated with it. However, I'd like it if someone could point me in the direction to see what problems Mayor Gulliani had with the various sites.

We just started something similar. I haven't heard about this. Can you please provide some more info? Why would Giuliani have a problem with such sites? I'm really confused but if there's a problem with it, then of course you're right it makes no sense to do it. Thank you.

perhaps its because a lot of misinformation is being spread.

I guess...waiting for more info on this, but too bad I didn't check in here first. We're already completely done with the site...all the graphics etc...oh well. What a shame. Could be such a positive thing helping lots of people... I know a lot of people would abuse such a thing but done right it could really be a great help.

I don't know what the media coverage of this is like in the rest of the world, but here in NY, there is a lot of misinformation being spread. I know that the City of NY is working on an "official" site to do this, but it may be a little while before they release it. I'm not saying to not do it, just be careful, and be sensitive of the situation. I think they're more concerned with "fake" sites, but if information is being provided that isn't accurate, it could be considered fake, despite what your intentions were.

I'll try to find a relevent press release on this.

I went through the tenant list of the WTC and search for their websites. Many companies are reporting in that their employees are safe! Found about 30 press releases. Just an FYI.
