    Well... I am just investigating this when I read your post. I adviced a potential big client to go for vBulletin instead of Ning. But when I see now what's possible with Drupal or Joomla/Community Builder I think... how can vBulletin ever offer anything remotely what Joomla/CB does? They even have shopping cart plugins and stuff and this is exactly what this client needs...

      It really does depend on what you need.

      We are currently building a social networking site in.... vB4. Well almost. It depends on the vbCMS and what new features get added in vB4, and to an extent, how the asset manager(/media library) pans out.
