Hey, I was wondering if there were any sort of dead giveaways for a vBulletin forum? I have my suspicions of a website, but I just wanted to know if there was anything I could do to double check that the forums are, in fact, pirated.

you can sometimes try to find an nfo file

here is one that I've found

SCRiPTMAFiA.nfo

adding this to the end of the url, sometimes these guys will leave this file on.

why worry about it??? just report it and that's the end of it.. the piracy team will take care of it, if it's pirated, or not doing anything if it's legal.

Most people incorrectly assume any boards without the copyright text in the footer are pirated, which isn't the case, most of these boards paid for the branding-free option.

Who would bother pirating a vB forum? If you need a free one there are plenty of them and if you want a nice vb or.. other pay ones they are cheap enough...

People pirate it because they do exactly as you say, start with a free forum board, get the bug of running a forum then relalise the could be running a better forum software package using vB.

Then they either don't have the money to buy it but want to use it, are too young maybe to pay online for it with a credit card, or simply just don't want to pay for anything full stop.

It doesn't help also becuase you have certain countries like Russia etc, were they know vB have little power to stop them from running a pirated version, unless the host they use will to work with vB.
