  • Genesis: anyone going on current tour concert...?

I'm soon off on the road with the wife and kids in an hour to head for Old Trafford to watch Genesis in concert tonight... can't wait. The playlist includes many of the classics from the awesome progressive rock génre and highly influential years of Genesis.

I only wish Steve Hackett was playing with them this time as I know him and could have got a preferred seat and backstage pass - ho hum!!

    So, who's going then?

Very cool! I would love to see Genesis in concert, they are a favorite of mine.

I several hours, I am off to Giants Stadium. Probably arrive a bit late, as I have no interest in the first handful of acts.

haha... guess I am there dean...

For those younger members who maybe dont know Genesis - they were totally awesome. I have seen Genesis several times now, the last time being 16 years ago - and I have to say these are musicians simply of the highest calibre. They play brilliantly together, have immense songwriting expertise, and have a truly expert production team. The sound quality was just breathtaking, more than 60,000 people packed into a stadium that erupted into life and who experienced a performance of outstanding class. What other act would you see play a set, non-stop, for just about 2 hours 30 mins. The only break was the two minutes for the 'more.. more.. more.." shouts when they finished then came back on for another two pieces.

Stunning is the only word I can use to describe it - and what made it truly wonderful for me was to have my 10 yr old daughter standing on the chair behind me holding my shoulders and arms, dancing, singing (despite her not knowing the words) and having a great time with me.

An evening and a moment that I will treasure for the rest of my days.

Very cool, I hope to see Genesis next time around. Glad you enjoyed it. I only got to see two songs on the television before I headed to Giants Stadium.

The NJ (the press called it NYC ) show was pretty good here. Bon Jovi put on a much better show than I expected. Melissa Etherage sucked (IMHO), as did the Smashing Pumpkins.
Roger Waters was amazing was quite simply amazing and IMHO was the high point of the show. The Police did very well.... this was the first time I have seen them since Day On The Green at the Oakland Colliseum (September 3, 1983). Unfortunately some rapper named Kanye got up on stage with them at the end.... and ruined the energy, and seemed to miff Sting a wee bit.

All in all, a long day, great weather, plenty of beer (even if it was light beer..YUK), stadium food, and some great music. Giants Stadium was sold out.

                    Very Nice!
I have just been playing some old songs from my most favorite Genesis album... A Trick Of The Tail. IMHO, the best Genesis album (without Peter)... and the stories it tells are just too cool for words.

They actually played "Ripples"... and I must say that track was superb. Not heard it played live before, and boy I am glad they did last night.

Very AWESOME. That is a great tune, without a doubt. Lyrics like that seem all to rare these days. I think Floyd and Styx might have come the closest in telling stories like that, and have a following.

                          Genesis - Ripples Lyrics

                          (Rutherford/Banks)

                          Bluegirls come in every size
Some are wise and some otherwise,
                          They got pretty blue eyes.
For an hour a man may change
For an hour her face looks strange -
                          Looks strange, looks strange.

                          Marching to the promised land
Where the honey flows and takes you by the hand,
Pulls you down on your knees,
While you're down a pool appears.
The face in the water looks up,
And she shakes her head as if to say
That it's the last time you'll look like today.

                          Sail away, away
                          Ripples never come back.
                          Gone to the other side.
                          Sail away, away.

The face that launched a thousand ships
Is sinking fast, that happens you know,
                          The water gets below.
                          Seems not very long ago
Lovelier she was than any that I know.

                          Angels never know it's time
To close the book and gracefully decline,
The song has found a tale.
My, what a jealous pool is she.
The face in the water looks up
She shakes her head as if to say
That the bluegirls have all gone away.

                          Sail away, away
                          Ripples never come back.
They've gone to the other side.
                          Look into the pool,
                          Ripples never come back,
Dive to the bottom and go to the top
To see where they have gone
Oh, they've gone to the other side...

                          Sail away, away
                          Ripples never come back.
                          Gone to the other side.
                          Look into the pool,
The ripples never come back, come back,
Dive to the bottom and go to the top
To see where they have gone
They've gone to the other side
                          Ripples never come back
                          Sail away, away...

My guess is it would have been Trick Of The Tail tour... IIRC, that came out in '76/77? Either way, had to be a helluva show.
