  • Apache Authentication with OS

    Does anyone know if apache can browser authenticate with the OS authentication? Using the OS username/password for authentication?

    You could setup a .htaccess file to get the passwd file, like this:
    PHP Code:
    AuthName Prohacker Inc.
    AuthType Basic
    AuthUserFile
    /etc/passwd
    <limit GET POST>
    require
    valid-user
    </limit

      That forces me to put the username and passwords into the .htaccess file. Plus using basic authentication passes the information over the network in plain text form. I need a way to have it encrypted and I want to use the username/password already setup on the user's box so they don't have to memorize a new name/pass.

        I'm not quite sure what you want then....

        That forces me to put the username and passwords into the .htaccess file.
        You don't have to put the username and password in the .htaccess file, it reads the usernames and passwords from /etc/passwd, where all system user passwords are kept...

        If you absolutely want it encrypted, just ssl with it....
