What's the best way to advertise your forum?

I'm trying to find the best FREE advertising solutions to your website/forum.

I appericiate evey body will tell their experience...

How much does Google/Alexa Toolbar help? And how do you get search resuts in Google.

Well, even though I don't currently have an active Web site open to the public, I've found that for some reason I'm Googled.

I think the big area is incoming links. In forums I usually place a link to my site in my sig. Other things are creating articles of content that might be helpful to people new to whatever material your site is about. (Example - a computer forum having an article on customizing this or that, a language forum giving grammar tips)

If you go with the above, look for sites that allow advertisements and submit your link. It may take a while, but it seems that traffic flows pretty solid once word gets out.
