Well I can see why since 1440p tv/video player will not be widely available until late 2008/9. Broadcasters will not go pass 1080i/p as they are limited and really only show 480p/780p. I hope Hollywood produces film above 2160p soon.
What is the difference in what you could be missing from 1.2 - 1.3
1.2
17 million possible colours
colour depth (rbg) 24 Bit
1.3
HDMI 1.3 can provide over 450% the resolution of 720p HDTV, and over 225% of 1080p HDTV for greater detail and larger display sizes.
2800 Trillion possible colours
colour depth (rbg) 48 Bit
Xbox is not missing out on technology, just beening smart when to implement it.
I do not see any value in using 1.3 unless you are in the top less than 1% wealthiest people in the world that can afford the newest generation of gadgets that come out every year. I know I can not, because my father is not Bill Gates or my mother as Ophra. I will stick in middle class as I like my money. -
You're paying an $80 premium for a 120 GB hard drive, a black paint job, and a generation-old HDMI port. I like the Xbox 360 better than the PS3, but damn, for $20 more, the PS3 is actually looking to be a better deal, depending on what you want to do.
You're forgetting that the console needs to be future-proof. You don't have an HDMI 1.3 TV now, but in five or more years, who knows? What about even 10 years when you want to dust it off for some old-school DirectX 10 gaming?
The higher resolution is not a concern, only because the GPU and game wouldn't support such a super-high resolution. The idea is higher color depth, particularly for 1080p movies.--filburt1, vBulletin.org/vBulletinTemplates.com moderator

But seriously, that affects a minority of people. In fact that minority is a minority. Besides, by the time it does start to become more popular, the next gen systems will already be here, or on the way. I don't see this as a loss nor do I see this as something thats utterly important. Its only good at this point for the technogeeks. So when people keep talking future, they need to realize that the 'future' involves the next next gen systems time frame. So like I said, I do not see this of any importance anytime soon.Comment

Thanks for all the feedback and information. I know little about the high def besides some basics, and looking into this. I already feel more confident buying the premium x360 last January, and not missing out now. I also think I will just keep using my 20" widescreen Dell monitor for the xbox and hold out on buying an HDtv until some time next year.
If I get an HDtv now changes are they're all 1.2? And that investing in 1.3 is useless as the TV sources here aren't even 1080p or true hd sound?Comment

I have three tele tubes tv and could of bought a 50 inch plasma for $2500 with 1080p, 3 ports of 1.3 HDMI and blah blah blah, but still going to wait for to see if Laser TV is real or a spoof. I know plasma/lcds in Canada drop 50% since last year, but still waiting to see is the specs. are true about Laser TV. I want to get the best picture for gaming & video before I go and by plasma/lcd.
I know that 1.3 blends the colour better than 1.2, so the colour banding is gone and that is all you will notice unless you want to buy higher contrast tv to get those rich colours that comes out every 3-6 months or see what mitsubishi 6 colour blend tv is about. Now, if mitsubishi does 6 colours with plasma/lcd I wonder like it to be done for Laser TV and that should show more than 95%+ of what a human eye can see for colour.Comment

The Elite will probably be the XBOX that I buy. I am not too worried about the HDMI port because I don't even have an HDTV at this point. More important thing to worry about than upgrading the perfectly fine televisions we already have. Might look into it this summer though.Translations provided by Google.
