Seriously, vBulletin is the best at the moment, most professional, serious features and stable. IPB is full of security holes and is full of useless features like your profile almost being a myspace... When all you want is a few details about the user.
To be honest, vB has nothing to worry about, they are as fine as they can be.

I'm getting great support with my dialup service...that does not mean I wont get DSL when it's available in the area...
Originally posted by Quillz View PostI personally couldn't disagree more. Sure, vB may be ahead right now, but IPB is just as good, and even better in some areas. Other free scripts such as phpBB 3 and MyBB also have a very strong feature set and community. If vB continues to innovate little, it will fall behind, and IPB is already pulling ahead in several areas, not to mention that IPS offers an entire community suite, including blogs, galleries and an upcoming CMS.
With all the other forums out there that are growing and offering more, "great support" is simply becoming less of a factor. I <3 vB, but my loyalties lie with the members of my forum, not the forum itself.

You said it really well. All our griping is coming from our own members. They want more and though the plug in architecture is great, the core product needs to keep up with evolving user expectations.

Yikes, I just took a tour of IPB. Blogs, gallery, portal... I love vB, but I gotta say, the competition might no longer be trailing, but the leader that vB is following soon.

I beleive the problem is Jelsoft wanted to be the best in the forum market and by making that the main focus they didn't see the big picture or ingorned it. They acheived that goal.
IPB and other realized a lcouple years that Jelsoft was king of the hill as far as forums go. They changed the focus and went the all in one route. Forums, blog and gallery. It allowed them to grab the market that wanted an all in one solution. While others like IPB and Telligent Systems looked at the big picture Jelsoft sat back admiring what they had done. While they still have the best forum package available they are left behind as other saw the future and acted.
The day of the stand alone forum is coming to an end. Communties are more than they were 3 or 4 years ago. Then a forum was the community. Now a comunity consists of blogs, galleries, forums, audio/video chat and much more.
Things change all the time and if you don't see the changes coming you get left behind.

All of you are making good points, but all of these points are assuming that nothing from Jelsoft is planned.
Are we 100% certain that nothing in terms of gallery, CMS, etc is planned in the soon future? Just because they have not been officially announced doesn't mean it's not in the works. Of course the opposite applies and doesn't mean anything is, but the point is, we don't know. I think that they are discouraged to post specifics about upcoming projects, due to what would happen in the past years, that is people constantly demanding for more and more and asking for specific release dates and so on. This happened for vB 3x + a few times and is still happening now for "vB 4" (The whole "we want it now!" attitude)
As paying customers we definitely should be able to express our concerns and feedback, but lets not jump the gun without giving the team a chance...

I have a lot of time invested in my site, and I'd prefer to stay here, but it gets harder all the time trying to patch all the different pieces together.

I'd love to hear there vision plan, but they are very reluctant to give any hints.
Unfortunately some of us will get tired of hearing "we can't officially support that (fill in the blank), go ask over at vb.org", or we don't release planning information. I'm not asking when the next release will be out that adds a trivial option, or nifty gadget, I'm asking for a more complete package.
I suppose it's actually my fault. I started my site out as a forum, but now that doesn't fit my needs any longer, and I chose to stay with a product that is just that, a forum only.

Most people here are aware of the links you posted.
The big difference, and important thing is that people in this thread are looking for an official Jelsoft CMS, Gallery, etc. and not a third party one.
