I'm very happily surrounded by lots of computers and cardboard boxes now and enjoying the newness of it.
Fingers crossed that my next one will be up and running in the next couple of days, and if not then it will be by Saturday night anyway.

Indeed, the case comes with 3 thermometers that you can put anywhere you want inside the case. I chose to put them to the CPU, video card and HDD. They constantly show me the temperature of those 3 spots. On my system the CPU runs at 28 degrees (Celsius), the video card at 32 degrees (Celsius) and the HDD at 31 degrees (Celsius also). What is nice is that I can set alarms for any spot. For example I can say that if the CPU temperature goes above 50 degrees then start the alarm.
Also, on the same LCD on the case I can see the FAN speeds for the CPU and case.

Better buy an LCD with a smaller resolution but with a better quality. Be nice to your eyes and they will be nice to you

I completely agree with the statement about LCD and quality. I've seen very cheap monitors that are from a brand I've never heard of. $200 might be nice for a 19 inch, but how long will it last?
Also, I love to game, and was deciding between the 17" or 19" Sony. I wound up going with the 17 due to many reasons, but mainly because it out performed the 19 when I compared them side by side (both in specs and in quality I saw with my eyes).
In fact, other than Sony, I don't really know any other good LCD companies. Any suggestions for when I do save up for the dreamy 1600x1200 res?

It is great for everything including gaming. Usually I don't play games, but when I bought my video card I did played for a few weeks Evolution GT, Fifa2006, GTAIII, Max Payne, NFS, Quake4 and UT2004. I never saw any kind of ghosting in any of the above games. Definitively this screen is good for gaming.
What matters for me is that the LCD is good for activities like reading & watching DVDs. The text is of adequate size and it's very sharp (I am sure that the digital connection to the video card helps a bit)
Also, the software is nice. You can set everything from windows with the mouse. You don't need to press any boutton on the LCD itself.
If I wouldn't have enough money for this model I would still buy a Samsung but a 19 inches model. Samsung is one of the top manufacturers and they make the LCD matrices for LCDs sold by other companies like LG. In other words other companies don’t invest much in R&D. They just take the matrix from Samsung and invest in design. The LCD matrix is the one that gives the quality of the screen.
Sony is a good choice but you should also consider Samsung.
Perhaps if you wait a bit this kind of screen might get cheaper so you'll be able to buy it:
The above LCD from Apple has a resolution of 2560 x 1600. More that twice my screen size
. In Romania it costs around 3000 USD.
Also, if you want you can do this:
Now I have 1200x1600 resolution. Lots and lots of things will fit vertically. Hmmm.... I kind of like it. Maybe I will keep my screen like this.Last edited by mihai11; Wed 17 Jan '07, 7:09am.
