  • What is your all-time favorite must have vB add-on or enhancement?

If you could pick just one enhancement or add-on that really made an impact on your website, what would it be?

For me, it's probably been vBadvanced, provided me with an easy to maintain homepage and website outside of the forums- powered via the forums.

I like 3 mainly, I don't go daft with installing loads of add-ons. One I do like is the "show adsence in archives" and who has visited the forum today". I also like the "threads on forumhome", although I have customized it to work with my own custom right side bar.

Thats all I use and need.

Welcome headers, best Mod ever, helps increase posting activity and registration.

Welcome headers, vBSEO and vBAdvanced if the occasion comes up.

              Template compressor and optimizing forumhome.

I administer three major high-traffic forums (1000+ concurrent each) and those two hacks have been a godsend in terms of server load and bandwidth.
              :)

I remember Kier saying these template compressors are useless since gzip compressor already compresses whitespace text before parsing pages to user agents! I do not remember his exact words, though!

Yep, that's correct. All you really achieve by using a template compressor is to render your HTML illegible.

It also won't be much of a godsend for server load. In fact it'll increase it, not reduce it.

Hmm, interesting... then it must be something else that is causing server load to drastically decrease, then...

I think the template compressor that most people use. I personally use hellcats. It removes white spaces and removes html comments, not javascript code. It reduces your overall bandwith usage while very slightly increases server load.

Welcome headers, followed by VB Gallery and Itrader.

Mmm... did you read my comments about template compressors earlier in this thread?
