  • What's the worst that can happen?

    If a server is hosting a very populer website and the server cannot handle is, what can happen?

    say like offtopic.com was hosted on a single account with minimium specs

    I guess the worst thing that can happen is that your website would not be accessible anymore.

        What about data corruption? Could that be possible under high loads?

          It will simply become unreachable. If it pulls too much resources the provider might have a policy to pull the plug and suspend the account and inform the customer to get a dedicated solution.

            Which actually happened with ebay before. Someone ordered a domain transfer and because ebay ignored that request they understood it as a yes and transfered the domain. For a few moments, all ebay traffic was then redirected to some shared server - and the website not accessible anymore.

                It's happend with my server, a forum I'm hosting had 30,000 users online and boom DATABASE error for a couple of minutes then it worked again.

                    When he first told me about it I was like what the? So i check up the MySQL Usage logs, He had 30k Members logged in, and unnumberable amout of guests.
