I´m wondering how many does this, may help on performance. What do you think about this, do you store the CSS style to an external link ?

Yes, it helps because the browser can cache it for future requests. If I had to inline all of my CSS, I'd be using a huge amount of bandwidth compared to now.

It is not set as default as it requires a directory to have world-writable permissions. Storing in the database will work on every new install.

Theres no good reason not to store your CSS as a file in vBulletin, or any other webpage.
