Forum idea

A friend of mine has several vbulletin licenses but all of his forums bascially died or never picked up.

Do you guys have a nice idea for a forum ? He does not really want to make money for it ...

I am also out of ideas ...

I think the problem is that there are already soooo many forums with most topics ..

Why not go off topic then but just keep it to one or two forums. The fewer forums you have the busier it tooks.

One good thing about an OFF TOPIC forum is you can basicly create boards to cover anythting you want. But I do agree there very hard to get off the ground. The ones that seem to work well are the OFF TOPIC board like www.wtf.com which are more geared towards speaking your mind with no rules as such. But then he does have a great domain name in WFT.com and a nice style to suit it. plus I think he used google adwords also.

An "Off-Topic" forum should always have a purpose; a theme.

Mmmm, I don't see how an Off Topic board can have a purpose. Unlike a site thats geared to cover a certain area like cars or fishing etc. How can you create an Off Topic board to have a purpose. Not sure I understand what you mean?

Ahh...Wandering minds have no direction; without direction there isn't a purpose. Without purpose, there isn't a point.

First, ask yourself, who am I targeting? Secondly, what do I want to accomplish; what will the members gain from the experience? Even the WTF forum has purpose. Just take a look at their "About Us" section and you'll find the theme "online RANTING community".

Check google zeitgeist and see what the most upcoming hot item is, start a forum about that. Bound to be successful.

Somehow I don't see that being a sell out

Having one about a dictionary could be very different though. If you had a thread about every word in the english language you'd have a lot of threads and posts

When I would take a look at that list I see that celebs are still hot, and cars.
