    3.7 or 4.0

What do you think is next after the 3.6 series? 3.7 or 4.0? .

Maybe staff can hint for us too .

Personally I find these threads stupid, because it makes no sense. We can't tell you - we won't - unless we're close to a release. And then nothing is official until it is posted as announcement in the announcement forum.

    I have voted 4.0 - but randomly picked. That's not a hint.

I would probably say 4.0.x, cause nothing goes on forever, at least I hope nothing does

Clicking 4.0, because 3.7 looks not very nice

I don't care, if it has some of the little tweaks I'd love to see...

          ie:
1> config setting for attachments on a separate server
2> ability to run multiple forum frontends on one database

both are major changes, and #2 would even require a multiple-license option (which I'm all for)...suspect both might even fall under an Enterprise edition...

          so, I choose option C > vBulletin Enterprise v1.0.0

Next major release will either be 4.0 or we'll see some new Jelsoft products.

An enterprise edition of vBulletin would be interesting to see.

                4.0.

I think vB 3.6 was an exception to introcude some new functionnalities, and 4.0 will integrate (i think) some new possibilities (i hope some integrations like PostgreSQL and others).

                Next release? Soon(tm)

I'm guessing 4.0, purely on the basis that people are starting to expect a lot more from vBulletin than just a standard bulletin board. There seems to be a real urge on the part of users at the moment to integrate MySpace style profiles etc into their boards.

I wonder if Jelsoft will take heed of this demand for version 4.0?

They are two different product trees. 3.x will be mostly (not exclusively) for simple bug fixes, security updates, and minor feature additions or moderate improvements to existing features. 4.0 will be a major new product.

This is exactly how 2.x and 3.x differ, and how other products like MySQL, PHP, Apache, etc. work.

edit: Demand for a product is useless unless a business value (profit and continuing operations) can be derived from it. However, I do suspect that demand is even stronger than usual, but demand for forums isn't necessarily increasing, but instead demand for community-driven web sites a la YouTube, etc.

God sake, not another "what version is next thread". Awwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!

But anyway, I would say we'll only see a version 4.0 if it has some big major new features added that warrants a totally new version release. Otherwise bug fixes and slight improvements will stay at 3.7

I personally don't care. But i'd say 3.7 unless they redo major things like that Admin CP and improve the frontend then we'll see 4.0.

                              I guess it will be 3.7, 3.8, 3.9 then 4.0
