Why would a person come on my site and do a whois.sc on my domain for. Not only one, but it shows in my logs that it was done on two domains I own. Both around the same time.

I do whois's quite often, purely out of curiousity So I wouldn't be worried or concerned.

ok, guess it was somebody just wanting to know if the domain was due up or something then, they wouldn't have got any personal details anyway as the domain is registered to the host.

I have noticed on my forum that twice on Monday for whos online, instead if an IP listed, it simply showed whois.sc. How does this happen?

that what happened to me, but I also had a guest on at the same time. It's normally a sign that they are checking the domain name, like who owns it and when it expires. If you have a good domain name thats a populat one. It can be a sign of a possible buyer trying to buy it at the last minute when it expires. Or that there interested in your domain name.

What's odd about this is that whois.sc doesn't actually exist anymore:

Whois.sc was renamed Domain Tools. Please change your bookmarks to perform a whois.

It's nothing to be worried about; they probably want to see either when the domain expires or where it's based geographically. The latter you can hide via privacy tools.

Also they spider domains to save a preview of the homepage So that's probably what it is.

What does this Bot do from google, been on my site a few times now, and when it comes. I seem to get loads of guest hits shortly after.

Sounds like Google pulling RSS feeds from your site.

Yeh, just been doing a search in google on this, but were is it pulling them to though. Were do they get displayed, any ideas?

I thought Google's personal home page feature lets you add RSS feeds...or maybe I'm thinking of Yahoo or something else.

Yep google does, and it also indexes them too

I see whois.sc in my logs as well.... I wonder if its referer spam

I see it occasionally in my home dedicated server logs...which is ridiculous because 90% of the traffic is from me, and 9% is from friends.
