I ressurected an old board that was closed down in March of 2003. I was given the database from the old owner and this week I decided to bring the site back after these years and taking a chance, I emailed all the members telling them the site is back. Sure many of them no longer have the email accounts or have moved on to other things. Well my site has had a steady flow of guests since then and ....YES AND, some of the old members have come back and logged in and posted! I even noticed one of the members who came back was banned because back in 2002 he had signed up and made some really weird threats to the board and had 6 posts. I didn't unban him. I did some searching on the board and found he had multple signups.

It can work! The board had over 3,000 members on the site when it was closed. It was running version 2.6 so it took some time and patience to upgrade to the latest version. I'm excited about running a board again that can actually go somewhere again!

How many of the 3,000 members came back after emailing them?

Well it's been about 90 minutes since I emailed them and 4 members have come back and 1 new person has signed up! I've been watching the whos online and I've seen not only spiders but real guests coming and looking around. We'll see what happens in the morning when people wake up. It's 2 AM here and people are sleeping!

Make that 5 members including one that was banned.

I don't know the reason why it was closed but I could imagine that many members will come back but all that depends on how long they have been registered.
If the board is still something unique you can even find new members. However your chances are low when a similar board was started after this one was close down.

Well two of them have posted today. Also just a short time ago, 4 members showed up all at the same time. Three of them never posted ever in the history of the board and one of them just went right on to reading some of the old posts on one of the forums.

Oh and I should also say that a total of 17 unique members have shown up today.
