I didn't use vBportal before, but I guess vBadvanced has a stronger development cycle than it. I voted vBadvanced as I'm using it on my own site. Very powerful, flexiable & customizable.
You're spending millions of dollars on a website?!

I prefer vbPortal by far. I did not care for vbAdvance, and having to change things via a file.

vbPortal is just a click to change, no changes to files, no hassle.

By far more features to start, no additional fees for "modules".

                vbPortal all the way!

huh? vBa doesn't require file changes... and its mostly click to change.. Theres no additional modules that cost either at least not from vBadvanced.

Anyway they are both great systems that are avaible to the vBulletin member base. I'd suggest taking the time to check out both and see which fits your needs better.

What 'fees' are you referring to for additional modules? I know of no fees associated with any vBAdvanced modules.

I appreciate Flomsen that looking at the front page of both they may seem similar at first glance, however if you have a good navigate round both sites you would have found vbportal offers much more in the way of default modules. Looking a bit further you would also find that vbadvanced is NOT a CMS system by any stretch of the imagination. In fact you could argue that neither is phpnuke, postnuke or their derivatives. In vbportal you can change what appears on any page, content, banners, advertisements, blocks/custom blocks etc. So for example is you click on the download module, you could elect to display blocks with links to free wear download sites, and these blocks would only appear in the download module. Same with Links module, blocks could contain related links to other websites. You can also decide the permissions on a user group basis for all the above.

The bottom line is that comparison is difficult as the two systems do not offer the same level of resources, if all you want is a front page with a few extra pages for custom content then vbadvanced should do nicely. If you want something with greater flexibility and freedom for what appears within modules or custom pages and can grow as your site develops then vbportal is the way to go.

On a personal note: Even vbportal 2 offered more flexibility than vbadvanced, I am always amazed at the comments of some of our more senior users who always jump in on the comparison of the two systems and more often than not, I come to the conclusion that loyalty to one, clouds their objective comments of the other.

probably for the same reason you felt the need to post but likely not for the same reason you might want to post now you read my post. I wasn't going to post either but you wouldn't know that unless I posted and told you lol.

If you look at this another way. there's a lot of members out of the 134500+ that will not vote either way. Less than one percent of all members will vote and so far one has said they don't use either product. 99% of the vbulletin members would not vote for either product yet 100% of the community has access to vbadvanced.

Its true that jelsoft would prefer we didn't use any other products that haven't been written by them in an ideal world, but there are needs to meet and both products have there place now. Isn't it time the vbulletin community stopped the stigma about other products. It only serves to put everyone off and disrespects the community. Its the reason why bounce said he wouldn't vote. It has that effect on everyone.
As a vbportal developer I would like to see this thread closed just like the other vbadvanced vs vbportal thread. There's really no need for a poll is there?

I've prefered using the vbadvanced scripts for a long time now, I was a very early vBportal user and have not looked back since I've made the change during the 2.2 days.
*shrugs* I just know what I saw about a year or so ago. For links you had to "pay" something like 5 or 10, then if you wanted a chat thing you had to pay x number ... maybe they've changed it since then, but that was how it was last time I looked.

As to clicking to change? O_o well, about 2 years ago (I think?) when I used it, any changes or moving of blocks on the portal, I had to go in and edit the actual file, and if I had other styles, I'd have to do it for each one! PAIN.

If it's changed? Well, so be it.

We all have our own prefrance eh? And mine is vbPortal. *shrugs*

But, with SO many of these "which is better" polls and threads, it does get a bit much. (well, in my head it is. )
