Spam - Delete or Ban?

Fortunately I don't get much spam.
Currently I ban them and move the post to a hidden forum so I can compare ip addresses at a later date.
Or should I just delete the user altogether?

Usually I ban them, sometimes I just remove their account and they never come back. I had someone spamming my blog every day so I blocked their IP from accessing my site... it was someone from Finland.

Delete the post, ban the user. Or at least it's that straightforward if they have registered and straight away start spamming.


If it's an existing user, enter the infractions system.

Ad-spammers, I ban and move the post to a public "Trash Bin" forum, along with any other threads that get to be utterly retarded... at least that's my policy, as yet I haven't gotten any of them.

I guess I like having all the evidence there and readily accessible.

You've never had a few hundered / thousand people on your non pagenated ban list.

If you don't wish to have a lot of banned users .. you can create a user called ' I am a spammer ' and merge all spam accounts into one. Just IP ban the hosts they're using.

User: ban them with extreme prejudice, announce the spam in a monthly banned and suspended users thread, investigate their IP block to see if it's in a "bad neighborhood" (I've already got all of Nigeria blocked off, plus many satellite ISPs and troublesome IPs known for hacking and spamming), and modify .htaccess and user banning options in vBulletin as necessary.

Message: move it to a hidden "deleted posts and threads" subforum.

We also check -- and recheck -- the profiles of all new users, and ban those with profile and/or spam.board.

I had my first spammer hit my forum a few days back, I just banned the user/IP and that was that for them.
