      I've reformatted about 5 times since then too to fix similar but equally annoying windows "faults"

        also no luck, but...

        Had the same problem as Dean's for the last 3 days. Tried TTGs suggestion - it didnt fix the problem, but the following happened instead - my PC is now operating much faster than it ever has - before it was really slow. But my anti-virus software has gone awol. Looks like I'll have to reformat.
