Buying a domain from someone

I hope this is the right forum.

Well, I've always wanted a certain domain name, since it's actually the name of my forums.
My problem is, that this domain isn't available anymore.
But there has never been a real site located at this domain, it's been parked (?) for a very long time now, so I'm even wondering if the owner is going to use it.

However, I'm pretty much a n00b concerning those things.
I'd like to know: How do I find out who the owner is?
I want to contact them, but I need a way to do so.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're better off spending the $3 for a new domain of your choosing than supporting those loser squatters.

You can find out the owner (registrant) of a domain by looking at the whois information of the domain in question. For example you can use this website: www.domaintools.com

Instead of asking how much they want for it you could think about your limit of how much you wish to pay for it (say 100) and offer them to buy it from them for half (50).

That's a good point there!

Another thing is don't make yourself look like you're really interested on the name. Like floris said make your offer of 1/2 your limit then wait for his reply then if the person counter offer you with something within your limit then go for it.
