    EEISH!

And what's worst was I let Firefox idle for a bit, doing nothing to it, and I watched the memory usage start climbing for no particular reason.
There are 2 things that... blegh... on the internet:

    1.) Mozilla
    2.) Firefox

I've noticed the major memory leaks all right.

      Pfft.

It's peaked at around 600 MB. You know something's going on when your computer hits a brick wall and the hard drive starts thrashing (noisy with RAID 10,000 RPM drives).

I was using Windowblinds at the time of the screenshot (a month or two ago). Now I'm just using the Windows Classic theme built into Windows XP given Windowblinds 5 broke somehow. It was buggy to begin with.

Been a problem for the entire time I've used firefox. Although it has yet to eat all my memory.

Currently using 113MB of memory with 4 tabs open.

set browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers to 0... see if it'll help.

5 tabs open with lots of extensions installed... 85MB usage.

How amusing…a person unaware & uneducated about a topic, simply ranting based on their biased views.

As good as FF is, this was a known issue with FF that many people have had.

I hope this warrants its own thread. Bug 131456: Memory use does not go down after closing tabs (resources not released). Status: RESOLVED FIXED. Current nightly trunk builds of Firefox 1.1 have this bugfix, meaning Firefox 1.1 final will have it also.

firefox has 300% more memory usage? and before some smartass tells me that dvd shrink or freeram xppro are the problems.. It happens without them running, too. - I'm only running the free ram app because firefox is eating up so much ram on this machine, and no, I do not have any viruses or...

So many browsers have a bit of memory leaks... now I'm starting to complain about IE7 (Internet Explorer 7) Beta 2!

(After 2 hours, the memory usage diaplays at least 246,081k memory usage)

I've been using it for the past few days and have noticed no significant increase in ram/vm usage.

I used to have 5-9 windows open and possibly 3-4 seperate IE processes. This used to consume 100~ mb all togher, I've been working with the same window since 10 am this morning, ranging from 10+ tabs to be opened to now 3. IE is using 42mb active memory and 35 in the VM.

I try opening 10 tabs (almost each day, a few for the news, some for mesage boards) and still feel it got slower.... probably I am using Authorware in some cases and maybe Shockwave player at some point, but even without it, I feel it slowing down my computer.

(Yes, I understand I am running 123 Flash Chat server too, but that's a whole different story)

I used WindowBlinds for a while, but didn't like the added startup tasks it added. I much prefer to simply modify my uxtheme.dll theme, so I can run WB themes, as well.

I didn't realize it was possible for uxtheme to run WB themes? Even the new WB5?

AFAIK, you can only run Visual Styles, not WB skins...

But IE7 is in Beta 2 . You willingly and knowingly took the risk by installing it.

But we have Firefox here claiming it's stable when in reality these memory leaks are sinking our computers
