  • Linux or Windows?

In your opinion, what's better? I have both on my PC (dual boot ).

Personally, I like Windows just a tiny bit more than Linux. I'm a Linux fan too, don't get me wrong, Linux is great and all, but I'm used to the ease-of-use that Windows has. Linux is hard. Try installing Gentoo... oh dear christ. The commands are endless.

Sigh...none is better. They each have their places. IMO, that would be Windows for Desktops and Linux for servers.

(and Other...I prefer OS X for Desktops).

Each has their own place in the computer world. I use Windows for Desktop machines and Linux for servers.

        Exactly

I use Windows XP for Desktop because it is simply better than Linux for the fact that there is so much more software that works with it. Games etc.

I use Linux for web servers

Yeah. Linux is far better than Windows for servers. Not only that, but it's faster and more secure.

A poorly configured Linux server will be far worse than a well-configured Windows server. You need to understand that it's a personal preference of which one to use and one is not just universally better compared to the other.

For me, Linux isn't a desktop solution, as said above, so I'm willing to fork out the $100 it costs to buy a Windows license.

As for a server, the biggest factor in choosing Linux is the fact that its free and widely used. In actual operating costs, $100 isn't that much, but its still a free $100. In the server environment, Linux does just as good, if not better that Windows and for $100 cheaper. Like filburt said, a server is only as good as its config, just like Windows is only as good as the user. Both Linux and Windows can be hacked, both Linux and Windows can be sluggish, and both Linux and Windows can be unreliable.

              My vote goes for Windows.

In my opinion, there is no better. Each operating performs better in different environments. I'm a Linux fan purely out of preference - I like the operating system!

I am now enjoying Apple Tiger OS X, and liking it.
Powered by UNIX it doesn't hurt too much by what you load and compared to windows: a bliss in gui.

In terms of the desktop (since I haven't worked with servers), I highly prefer Windows. It's easy to install, and everything just seems to work with it. For the common user, it's also relatively secure. I'm waiting for WinVI Ultimate Edition.

Windows Vista Ultimate Edition is supposed to be the best version of Vista when it comes out. I meant I was going to upgrade to that.
