    Any TN Members?

To our Tennessee Members, just wondering what's the weather normally like around the first week of January. I'm planning to be traveling there for a conference around that timeframe Currently looking at Jan 2-5

If it's anything like the past 3-4 years, it'll be slightly cold, no snow and chances are it'll probably be raining . I've not seen a "true" snowing here in TN since back in 1993 when we had enough to block in our doors (I remember walking in it...).

I suppose it will really depend on where you'll be traveling in TN. The Tri-Cities (Kingsport, Bristol and Johnson City) as well as the better part of Knoxville pretty much follow the above whether around that time.

I can't say too much about Nashville or Memphis though, so if you're heading down there I couldn't tell you .

Same here, I generally love the cold and do my best to avoid the heat. Nashville is a nice place to visit, but the traffic is horrible (I tend to have a severe case of road rage ).

I really dislike people that sit there when the lights green or take their time to get moving when it does turn green. Generally, the light turns by the time 3-4 cars go through when about 6-9 should have been able to pass the lights with ease.

And most people I know as me why I stay at home .

I'm right over the mountains in North Carolina. It really doesn't get to cold around here unless some cold air comes in from up north, for the most part it stays mild.

We do get our fair share of ice storms (more common than snow).

I live just outside of Knoxville, and it isn't too terrible in January. It is cold, but like KingSpade said, there hasn't been any huge snow for about 12 years (when I was 6?). It really depends. A week ago, it felt like Spring. Now, it is freezing outside. TN's weather is too unpredictable to guess.

Yeah, it's crazy....one day it's warm (even in winter) and the next, for most, it's freezing cold and coat weather. It's to the point where the news channel is about worthless for weather.

So how's it looking at the moment...come January? Mild? Warm? I'm definitely there from Jan 2-5, downtown Nashville. I can't really overpack as I have luggage restrictions to basic Carry-On size...(Maximum weight is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height) per checked piece of luggage.)

Cold for most people, but I'm still in a t-shirt . I stay in them until the temp. drops down to 20-30 or lower. When it does snow, I'm usually the first to jump in (if there's enough, which doesn't look like it this year either).

I would suggest just checking a website for Nashville's weather forecast a day or two before you leave and go off that.

                              January temperature stats for ya....

Got down to 29F last night, although not a record, it's below average. At this rate come January it's going to break records again (already one was broken last month -- 21F).
