What is an SSH client what does it do and how do I get hold of one?

  • #2
Simply put: an SSH client does the same as a Telnet client...
But with one major difference: all communications between the SSH server and the client are encrypted. You can even generate special keys and use those to login to your server instead of sending plain name and password

You will find the best client here (not free):

If you want a free one, try and find PUTTY...

If you have rh 7 it comes with ssh installed. You just have to enable it (I think). To do that just type "/usr/sbin/setup" then check the one that says "sshd".

Otherwise just go download the rpm from openssh.org. Once it's set up, get your PUTTY from the client side and log in to test. Simple heh?

          Now disable telnet.
          Well, there it is.
