  • Members deleting posts

I was just curious on what others do when it comes to allowing members to delete their own posts.

I have a board where I have only owned it for a week. I really didn't make an informed decision on making someone a mod. After taking some advice from another board, I removed the guys mod status and he got angry and deleted all his posts. I had a backup from a few hours earlier and I restored it ahich gave me back his posts.

How do you all handle posts? Do you let members delete posts/threads?

I changed it so members can't delete them now and time limit on edits is one day.

They can't delete their own threads and can only soft delete their posts on my forum.

Soft delete is a great feature, but with inline moderation you can select all soft deleted posts and undelete them in a go (3.5)

Thanks Floris! I will enable the soft delete feature. I like that idea! I've only been using 3.5 for a week so I'm learning!

According to the code the users always are 'soft delete', and the moderators can select between soft/phyically if they have both permissions. The admin help shows it is physically for users, but I will change that for the next version.

OK, thanks Floris. This explains why the mod was able to physically delete them. In the future if I ever have a mod again, they will just be able to soft delete.

I remove physical delete from the templates completely.

Same here! Found it to be the best.. You can't really tell when a member goes nuts and deletes all his posts
                  That's the end of that!

I dont' allow deletion of posts. I run a small board so a member has to request it.
