  • Question for Non-Americans

This is regarding the pledge to our country we say everyday in school.
Basically we have a thing we say every morning in school reaffirming our devotion to our flag/country.

Can you answer with what country you live in and whether there is something similar done in your public schools.

A simple "UK, no" will do.
    Thanks

UK, Australia, France already been answered

FWIW, in Canada they did years ago. Don't know about these days, though.

Uk. Private schools are often religions, so yes [but not to country, to God ie in Lord's prayer etc] State run schools, no. There might be ocassions (rare) when the national anthem would be sung which includes "God save our gracious Queen"

No, I was going to ask some of the kids around the neighborhood about it, but of course today I didn't see any. They're underfoot when you don't need them, and when you do...

Well I found an interview with Kenneth Starr that he did with the N.Y. Times. He was involved in the old pledge case.

When asked, "Do any other countries have a pledge of allegiance to their flags?"
Starr answered, "Not to my knowledge."

In Australia no, but some schools do sing the national anthem.
                            I'm going mad, wanna come?
