  • The Italian way to fight high gas prices

    One warning, please read before posting!
    This thread is about the high gas prices and how I deal with them. The old thread was closed because of some offtopic discussions. I don't want to see any political comments or other kind of comments that may lead to a thread closing. Please do not reply to this thread when you don't agree with this!

    Well, I don't think we need to mention the problem again. Gas prices are high, too high for many people.
    What can we do against this? Public transport? Sell the car and get a bike?

    Here's what I did. It's a Fiat 500F from 1966 and it has a 0.6 liter engine and it's rear wheel drive has to fight with 23bhp

    This pictures where taken yesterday when we got him (he needs a name, any suggestions? ) from his former owner.
    I must admit he doesn't look good on this pictures but we will put some work in it to get a brand new Fiat. Hard to believe but there's absolutely no rust and the parts (lights, bumpers etc) are like new.
    This winter he gets a new paintjob, it will be a pure black with red leather on the inside. I will keep my flickr photoset updated just for the case you are interested in this

    To get back on topic: The engine needs less than 3 liters on 100 kilometers.. You can't beat this

          How many cylinders does that thing have? Does it even use pistons?

            Normally it's a 479 cc two-cylinder, aircooled engine. This one has the slightly larger engine from a Fiat 126.

            And yes.. Both use pistons

              What is the italian word for "two". Then add that onto the german word for "banger".

              And you've got what we in the US would call a "two-banger" LOL

              EDIT: UPON DOING SOME RESEARCH

              dueknallkorper ?

              *i probably just said something profane, forgive me, i used a language translator, and there were like 18 words for "bang"*

                uno = 1
                due = 2

                knallkoerper = firecracker

                banger = sausage

                I dont think it would be a good name

                    Well let's see what sound the engine makes

                    I have some spare parts on my ebay watchlist and I'll try to revise the engine as soon as possible.

                        I keep seeing British and other shows mention bhp instead of just normal hp. What's the difference?

                          Yea I was trying to figure that out myself...

                          Anyways, gas prices here in MI aren't so bad anymore. We recently got back down to 2.69 in certain places.

                          I would rather pay high gas prices than be caught driving a car like that But that's just me, and I'm a somewhat car freak

                          MGM out
