Is there a vBulletin Trial?

No there isn't. However you can signup for the Admin Demo which lasts one day and is hosted by Jelsoft to see if you like the back-end of vbulletin. That's the closest to a trial you will get.

There should be a free-hosted version like IPB have free-hosted versions.

You can test out vBulletin and how easy it is to skin via the Admin Demo. If you want to ask questions about ease of use for modifications you should ask at vBulletin.org.


Even if there ever would be a "free" version (And its very improable of that ever happening) It would be zend encoded, which means you still wouldn't be able to test that sort of functionality out.
