  • 3.5 stable, when?

Hi guys, I'm doing a bit redesign of my site and want to redesign my board to fit in with the new design, however I'm on an older version of vb and wondering if i skin that one will my skin transfer acorss to 3.5 gold when it is released.

Does anyone know when this may be, i mean are we talking about 2006? so should i hold back for 3.5 and then skin?

Any 2.x skin won't work on any 3.x release.
The 3.0 skins will work mostly on the 3.5 release, BUT the templates are different because of new code and features and their options. You have to revert and re-apply some changes to get those features and options to work with the new code.

There is NO eta on 3.5 stable/gold, so we can't give it. When we know, it will be in the form of an announcement. Just like always.

thanks floris, I'm on 3.0.3 at the moment. Don't think I will reskin that, a follow on question then would be this. If I skin on 3.5 rc2 and then when gold comes out will rc2 but compatilbe with gold for the most part. I think this may be my best route.

Yeah, 3.5.x skins will work for 99% (pending template changes between releases)

Sure, if the style is mainly just graphics and color changes, it'll work fine. If those types make up 99% of the styles out there, then I'll agree with that statement.

But all these styles you see that have major template re-workings aren't going to work correctly at all. 3.5 has had a LOT of changes to a LOT of templates, so you'd have to revert all those, and try to manually re-apply the changes to make the style look the way it did before.

A general rule of thumb is that when you are on a Release Candidate, a stable release isn't far off.

This is a general rule of thumb in most cases. This is vbulletin though, a jelsoft product.

It's a general rule of thumb for Jelsoft too... 3.0.0 release shortly after the first RC released. And the same happened (I presume) with the various 2.X releases.

                  MGM out
