  • GTA:SA down Sims 2 next target!

wtf... this guy wants The Sims 2 to have either AO or M cuz there is a mod out to remove the blur when sims r naked....

[UPDATE] Miami attorney Jack Thompson claims cheat codes make EA's life sim a pedophile's paradise by showing genitalia; calls for ban on T-rated game.

    how sad is that?

I didn't read this article but based on the headline I must say some people are really crazy

Just because there's a cheat, a leftover piece of code that made testing easier, a game should be t-rated or banned? I mean I don't have a problem with this because I can still buy those games but this is an unfair punishment for the publisher and the developers.

Hell you can even turn Windows into a pedophile's paradise because with it you can play those movies easily..
    That's the end of that!

Meh go ahead and do it - I'm an adult so whatever crap he tries to say about not letting kids see it, well, makes no difference to me

Although walking into a shop and buying it while onlooking kids are gawping at me with the "OMG HE CAN BUY THAT GAME I WANT IT SO BAD" look, I must say seems to make this idea much more appealing

As long as it applies to just EA's games, I wouldn't mind.

But in all honesty, I doubt he's got a case. Hot Coffee was deliberate and non-essential to the game. The Sims (both 1 and 2 and the fifteen million add-ons for it) are not doing it as an easter-egg or an unlockable scene. It's a 3D-based game and those Sims are 3D models. As such, they are built layer by layer -- first skin, then clothing.

EA has gone to great lengths to make the adult situations in The Sims appropriate for kids of all ages. I doubt the crazy "antigaming activist" will have a case. Plus, EA is rich as hell. They've got a few dollars to fight the case.

He's just pissed off because of a mod (not by EA, but by a third-party person) made new "skins" for the Sims in the game to show their genetailia and whatnot. Nothing related to EA, so the guy has no stance on the game at all, and should be targeting the maker of the mod, not the game it was made for, because the game wasn't made to do stuff like that.

I don't know, but it sounds like this guy has never played any of these games he's targeting, much less be near a computer. Anyone knows that what is made on a computer, a good majority of it can be changed, modified, etc. to do things it wasn't intended for.

Good thing is he picked the wrong game to pick on, because he's got no case, period.

Jack Thompson *sigh* This guy just wont quit. He's an annoying bastard that doesn't know what he's talking about half the time. Half the comments he made for the San Andreas case were not true but the game still recieved an AO rating (although I do agree it was the developers fault for leaving the code in the game, knowing fully well that their games are modded to hell and back).

As far as Sims goes, that's not even a case. That's a moron trying to sound smart. A developer can't control third party mods, and third party mods dont have a rating system. So if someone makes a nude skin for Sims, why is that a problem? If someone wants to download it, they can. It isn't included by default, and it isn't like EA is supporting it.

If he thinks Sims is bad, he should play God of War or Postal 2 (with some of the mods available for this game which, coincidentally, had links available on the official game site linking to them).

One of these days Jack, one of these days....BAM!

He sent this email to a bunch of people..

"Allow me to make this very clear to all in the so-called "gaming community" who continue to email me for the purpose not of sharing information or engaging in civil conversation but for the sole purpose of harassing me:

"In Florida we have a cyber-stalking law. There are federal statutes as well that prohibit what many of you are doing to me. Some of you have emailed me and threatened to kill me. How interesting that you claim that I have infringed on YOUR First Amendment rights.

"I am warning all of you whom I have not invited to communicate with me after an initial contact by you that I shall consider any further emails from you as violative of my rights and violative of the aforementioned criminal statutes.

"There is nothing more hypocritical than a bunch of gamer thugs who harass me and threaten me all in the name of "freedom of expression."

"I have a constitutional right to talk, at the Senator's request, to the staff of Senator Clinton. I did that. I have a right to point out that Electronic Arts is engaged in a knowing conspiracy with the "mod community" (what's next, "a pedophile community"?) to distribute porn to children. Any of you who don't think that is what EA is doing need to get a law degree and practice for 30 years, as I have. Then I'll be interested in your "opinions" about The Sims 2 scandal.

"If you videogaming thugs don't like what I do, then get off your rear ends and talk to the media, talk to your representatives, and write articles for your Internet game news sites. Don't flood my email inbox with your petulant tirades which are neither welcome nor productive.

"All they do is encourage me in my knowledge that normal people who have a right to stop predatory video game companies' practices are going to succeed in protecting children from those practices. Honestly, some of you email me and threaten me because you say "You want to ban all video games." That is reflective, by and large, of the perspicacity of the typical threatening emails I get. Such people don't want facts. They want an argument. They want to treat me as if I were some punching bag prostitute in GTA. I've had it with this. I am going to stop it.

"We won the "Hot Coffee mod" battle, and we shall win other battles. If any of you clowns are still dumb enough to threaten me and harass me after receiving this email, then contact your lawyers. You're going to need them."

... and no one has noticed that he's silencing our right of free speech and otherwise expressing ourselves in thing he think is wrong? Also, first rule of internet: Don't give out personal inforamtion (like e-mail) if you don't want to face some unwanted side-effects.

The initial contact was going against gaming in general.

"There is nothing more hypocritical than a bunch of gamer thugs who harass me and threaten me all in the name of "freedom of expression."
... by forcing us to follow in your censorship and what you believe weshould follow instead of letting us choose what we want to have in our houses?

Um... EA has nothing to do with the modding community, really. That's third-party and outisde of their vendetta (if that's the right choice of words). Plus, there is no "scandal" going on.

"If you videogaming thugs don't like what I do, then get off your rear ends and talk to the media, talk to your representatives, and write articles for your Internet game news sites. Aren't you supposed to be one of those representatives? Wow genius, you really make a good point then.

"All they do is encourage me in my knowledge that normal people who have a right to stop predatory video game companies' practices are going to succeed in protecting children from those practices. What is "normal"? It does seem that you want to ban all video games from the way your're going recently, and given your past. You touched something senitive, and you have to put up with the people who cherish your "targets of doom and corruption."

"We won the "Hot Coffee mod" battle, and we shall win other battles. If any of you clowns are still dumb enough to threaten me and harass me after receiving this email, then contact your lawyers. You're going to need them."
... that's because there was, in fact, a case there. There is nothing in the Sime 2 that would otherwise give you ground.

I don't know, I just hate people like that who have never played any of the games first hand (hell, he was even targeting Halo at one point), much less anything else out there. Seriously... gawd, I hate ignorant people. Sorry, just needed to vent.

Some people are just plain stupid. Nevermind the part about EA conspiring with modders to distribute child porn is total BS.

Practicing law for 30 years doesn't mean you suddenly have a right to make preposterous accusations and sell them to the world as legit facts.

Also, notice how he's treating the modding community as a single entity. A single entity that a company like EA can conspire with. I think he fails to realize that the people writing the mods out there are not incorporated into a single company--they are individuals.

They don't get together every week and sit in a conference room with EA's representatives and plot about how to infest the world with kidding porn.
                        :)

According to him, they do just that. In fact, EA probably helps draw the models and input secret code to be able to do many "unlawful" things.

EA is probably planning to mount a "laser" on the moon as well.

It's the only logical conclusion that can be drawn from their acquisition of Maxis, Westwood Studios, ESPN, Microsoft, CNN, and Al Gore.
