I'm a huge fan of HDR photos but most of them look too unrealistic.
    That's the end of that!

      • Thank you!

I have actually made some more shots at that evening but I don't like them that much (all of them are linked to my flickr.com account):

Both photos show the benefits of HDR - without it I couldn't have captured the sunset and in fact, those photos are pretty realistic and I have never seen such an orange sunset.

It's a bit too dark but I shot it after sunset.
        That's the end of that!

          • Thanks!

I just created a little bookmarklet that creates BBCode from the photo page to embed the photo.

The sky lets down 3, otherwise it would have been a cracker too!

LUV it, do tell, how's it done. I'm researching this now. I guess I'm behind the power curve here. Been busy with other stuff that this whole HDR stuff passed me by.

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. Its basically combining multiple exposures into one image. By capture the same frame with multiple exposures you can highlight all areas instead of just exposing for one. Basically its like taking several layers/pictures and merging them together as one. Its used in modern day movies as well.

This probably explains it better though.

The most important part is the software. I'm using Photomatix Pro (on Mac), other software gives you other results but Photomatix is considered the best.

                      • Thanx guys, well I'm trying HDR in CS3 and have added in the photomatrix tone-mapping plugin. Do you figure CS3's not as capable as the full photomatrix Pro?
